The
school has six classroom blocks and a community hall which houses the library
and the computer centre at present on our 40 hectare piece of land. Our
vision is a campus consisting of villages that are linked to the central admin
block, computer centre, library, design and technology unit, lecture theatres,
music block, art, and chapel and hall by a series of paths that wind through the Lowveld bush. Southern cross uses the Revised National Curriculum and
simply drops it into the natural environment. Should a learner need to change to another
school, they will do well academically, and as they will have learnt many life
skills, this will place them ahead of their new peers. |

There
is a preschool - 4, 5 and 6 year-olds. The primary school is from grade 1 to 7.
Grades 8 and 9 is now the Senior phase. Further grades will be added in the
future. It is also intended that they graduate with further certificates of
competence via the South African National Qualifications Framework system, for
related studies in the field of ecology, conservation, agriculture, hospitality
and tourism. A natural flow from the school would be to the Southern African
Wildlife College located near the Kruger National Park.

Education is not about simply imparting information; it is about
providing our children with the necessary skills, on an academic, sporting and
practical level. Wherever possible, pupils get the opportunity to become involved in
activities directly linked to specific career paths. These may include
participation in service provision, front line management, leadership and
business skills, marketing, veterinary procedures, game capture, hunting,
tracking, agricultural studies etc. at nearby farms, game lodges, game farms and
reserves. |

The
pre-school, Grades 00 and Grade 0, will follow a well-balanced Perceptual
Training Programme as well as instruction in THRASS. Whilst the emphasis
will be on preparing pre-schoolers for mainstream schooling whilst using leading
developmental techniques, the children will also derive great enjoyment from
their surroundings and outdoor activities. The programme for the Preparatory and
Senior School will follow the Revised National Curriculum, but
will be adapted to suit the vision and mission of the school as well as the
needs of its pupils. See curriculum page for
subjects. |
